Mrs. Gilland and Mrs. Wheatley’s Homeroom

Hello Students and Parents!

We hope this message finds you all healthy and in good spirits!  We have discussed a few tips and some suggestions to help you through the remainder of the school year.  If you have not done so already, please join our Remind classes and add us on Facebook!  Also, PLEASE SHARE this with any parent that may not be in contact with us on these apps.

April 13-May 15, 2020

Every Weekday:

  • Spend at least 15 minutes, or complete one lesson, on iReady Math.

  • Practice multiplication facts for 15-20 minutes.

  • Spend at least 15 minutes, or complete one lesson, on iReady Reading.

  • Read something for at least 30 minutes.  Anything!

  • For example:

  • Newspaper

  • Magazine

  • Online articles from Kiddle

  • Readworks.org (We have assigned science passages/general reading for you.  The class code is MBQSYH and default password for all students is 1234.)

Mondays and Wednesdays, approximately 30 minutes (MATH) :

  • Continue with the lessons in your Ready Math books.  Use the pages in the “take-home” book to guide you, and then your practice book for pages to complete for extra practice with the skill.  I know it is new, but if you just try a little each day, the exposure will be good.

  • You can also find help on YouTube on the Khan Academy videos.  Just search the lesson topic.

  • You will notice that the assigned lessons in iReady are matching up with the lessons to be completed in the book.  Pay close attention to the online tutorials.  They are very helpful!

Tuesdays and Thursdays, approximately 30 minutes (READING):

  • Continue to read the stories in your MyPal Reading book in order.

  • Answer the three questions at the end of each story and do at least one or two of the writing pieces.

  • Also, do not forget to look over your vocabulary.

  • Social Studies:  Read sections out of the Social Studies Weekly.

  • Complete the think and review questions.

  • You can log on to Epic books and BrainPop for other assignments that have been assigned by the teacher that go along with reading, grammar, and social studies.

Fridays (Learn by Doing):

  • Journal writing:  Keep a diary about how you feel during this time and how things are different.

  • Bake something with an adult, discussing measurements and recipes as you go.

  • Look up STEM activities online and have fun with a new experiment.

  • Play a board game or card game with siblings or other family members.

  • Send your teacher a friendly email or text to let them know how you are doing! We would love to hear from you and write you a response!

Monday, May 18, 2020:  HONORS DAY!
